Plymouth Uni V St Austell Ladies

Posted by Debbie James on 1 October 2019

An optimistic St Austell started out with great intentions and were moving the ball brilliantly around the pitch. However, it wasn’t long before Uni tightened their tackles and began to bring the challenge back to the ladies. In the early minutes a short corner was awarded to Uni but after a weak injection they managed to put it away. The press continued and St Austell challenged hard. The defence worked well together, stopping any threat from Uni in their tracks.

Half time 1-0.

Uni continued the press in the second half with St Austell struggling to make their way through the defence. Saints refused to give up on their battle to get the equaliser, and even with a couple of players in new positions, the ladies kept making progress up the pitch. The rain poured and spirits were starting to get dampened; however Saints continued to work hard and weren’t making it easy for the opposition to get through. A hard hit into the D saw a deflection hit the back board - an undeserved goal but enough to put Uni on the score sheet for the second time. Saints stood up to the challenge with some threatening pieces of play but it wasn’t enough.

An unfortunate score line but a hard fought game with some great positives to take away.

New to the team this year, Elaine fitted in brilliantly and started her season with St Austell in great form. Also welcome back to Maisie this season.

MOM: Susie James had a fantastic game.

Next week we welcome Bodmin back to Poltair. The ladies are looking forward to their first home home game and hope you can come and give them a cheer.
