St Austell Vs Bodmin 2's

After some stormy weather at the end of last year saw our matches get cancelled, today we returned to play our rescheduled home game against Bodmin 2nd team.

Saints were determined to take on the positive play from yesterday's game and to claim three more points in the league.

The first short was won by Beth Horwell. Saints played it back to injector Yasmin Barrott, who reverse flicked the ball into the back of the net, scoring Saints' first goal of the game.

Not long after, Charlotte Jarman hit the ball into the D, Vicky Jarman who was beautifully positioned and she swept the ball into the goal for her first touch of the game.

The play continued to be in St Austell's possession. C Jarman had many shots on goal and was finally rewarded when we ran in from the left and hit the ball across the D and scored her first of the game.

Saints' fourth goal came when Barrott flicked the ball towards the net, which was saved by the keeper and Kellie Williams didn't miss her opportunity to swipe the ball to claim a goal.

All of the play continued to be in Bodmin's half and a straight strike from C Jarman from a short corner gave Saints their 5th goal.

After that, V Jarman ran the ball into the D and her clean shot on goal gave her her second goal of the match.

Saints' 7th and final goal of the first half was slotted in by Horwell, who was positioned on the P spot to receive V Jarmans assist.

Half-time 7-0 to Saints.

As the Saints were hungry for further goals and were pressed forwards, a high Bodmin player ran the line and managed to catch the Saints out and grab them self a goal.

Bodmin continued to make some advances to the Saints D but a strong defensive line were able to make those all important tackles and interceptions to prevent any further goals.

St Austell were fired up to respond and the next opportunity was denied by a Bodmin defender's foot, meaning St. Austell were awarded a flick. Mandy Bevins stepped up to the task and scooped the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal, giving Saints their 8th goal of the match. Saints' attacking play was relentless but it took a while before their efforts were rewarded when C Jarmans straight strike zoomed diagonally across the D and hit the backboard.

Disappointment for Captain Tregunna when her strike from a short hit the backboard but celebrations were short-lived when the umpire informed Saints that the ball had not left the D. However, hopefully captain is happy with a 9-1 win.

A win for Saints and the 3 points we came to claim

Thanks to our supporters, today's umpires Lindsay and Mark. Also coach Kat for her wisdom and support and not forgetting our injured Miranda Ball who was a fantastic manager on the sideline.
