Match Report

 Saturday 11th January

For the first time in a few seasons, St Austell decided to enter the cup this year and we travelled to face Duchy 1's at Pool School for the first round.

Well aware that Duchy are competing a few leagues above us St Austell were determined to rise to the occasion and not shy away from Duchy's success.

St Austell began well with good energy and positive attitudes which allowed a clearance from the defence to find its way up to Charlotte Jarman. Her determination saw her make an incredible run into the D and pull off a great strike, which was scooped up into the back of the net by Kellie Williams!

Delighted to be 1-0 up, St Austell kept up the tempo and held their own.

Duchy gained a few short corners and were able to convert on 2 occasions, putting them in the lead.

St Austell had some more opportunities throughout the half through excellent triangles and runs along with some strong defensive play. A quick reshuffle of positions after Miranda Ball took a deflected straight strike to the knee (OUCH). Duchy were able to grab a 3rd goal before the half time whilst went.

Half time 3-1 to Duchy.

The half time talk gave Saints some time to reflect and with coach Kat's words of being more confident in our play, the team stepped back onto the pitch with some more belief and confidence.

With that Saints had a string of passes down the left hand side which led to Yasmin Barrott entering the top of the D, striking the ball towards the left post where Vicky Jarman got the touch which sent the ball sky rocketing into the top of the net for a fantastic goal. This was quickly followed by Miranda Ball sending the long ball up to Vicky who struck the ball into the back of the net bringing Saints back in the game to 3-3.

Saints continued with a narrowly missed strike from a short corner and some battling in the D, but struggled to secure a 4th goal.

Duchy responded to St Austell's comeback and began to put on the pressure and were successful in gaining a string of short corners in which they successfully converted another goal. The game remained fairly end to end throughout the 2nd half but Duchy did manage to bag themselves 2 more goals before the final whistle with some excellent attacking play.

Final score Duchy 6-3 St Austell

Whilst we didn't win this match, we were delighted to have contended well with the Duchy side and score 3 strong goals! Everyone worked really hard resulting in some excellent play!
