St Austell Ladies Vs Okehampton

Saturday 4th January 2025 

Our first game of the year saw the return of the under armours due to the chilly conditions today.

St Austell welcomed Okehampton to Truro School, for a rescheduled match after a cancellation in November.

The excitement to be back in action showed on the pitch as the Saints began with some excellent play and quickly advanced into Okehampton's D. Many powerful shots were fired through, but Okehamptons keeper made some excellent saves to keep the Saints out. Saints realised that straight strikes weren't going to work against this keeper and mixed up the play allowing Charlotte Jarman to slot the ball into the back on the net giving Saints their 1st goal of the game. This was very quickly followed by Kellie Williams who bagged another goal from the post with some excellent timing and positioning.

The half continued with strong passing and the midfield and defence breaking down Okehampton's advances. There were many more goal attempts with the Jarman sisters firing the ball at goal and further attempts from Susie James, Yasmin Barrott and Laura Tregunna were also denied by a strong Okehampton keeper.

Half time 2-0.

Saints really settled into a strong rhythm and the passes were flowing and strong interceptions and tackles were allowing the Saints to hold possession well. C Jarman made a strong run up the pitch accompanied by V Jarman to allow her to grab a second goal of the game as she flicked the ball into the bottom corner. 

This was quickly followed by V Jarman herself after many strong passes throughout the team allowed Vick to get the all important strike to push Saints further in front.

Okehampton responded, utilising their midfield who made progress up the field in an effort to get some goals for themselves, but Saints excellent defending and teamwork stopped Okehamptons attempts.

Saints the pushed back through into Okehamptons D and Mel Maskell was able to bag the Saints a short corner. This led to several rebounds and strikes from the Saints, but Amanda Crowle got the goal from the rebound.

Final score St Austell 5-0 Okehampton
