Match Report

Saturday 9th November

Following last week's result, Saints came into the match with energy, positivity and fighting spirit. The game began fairly even, however a new face to Newquay's squad presented with some serious pace and skill, catching the Saints out early on, putting them 1-0 up.

Once aware of this threat, St Austell were able to take control of the 1st half, with some excellent shadowing and tackles, followed by great passes and play higher up the pitch. The first Saints goal came as V Jarman dominated at the top of the pitch and found the bottom corner of the goal, giving St Austell a great boost.

The next goal soon followed when the ball was slipped from the centre of the pitch out to Tregunna on the right. Tregunna headed for the D and managed to get a great strike through towards goal and V Jarman was positioned perfectly to get a touch a cheeky touch, leading to her 2nd goal of the game.

Half time 2-1.

Saints felt positive about their 1st half and headed into the second half ready for some more positive play. Within a couple minutes Newquay gained themselves a short corner and managed to get back level with the Saints from a straight strike. Saints continued to work hard and created their own opportunities at the top, gaining themselves a short corner. Unfortunately these opportunities did not result in goals and Newquay found themselves on the break and successfully converted another goal.

Newquay continued with a string of short corners which they gained from regularly looking to play the ball onto feet. Newquay then pulled back yet another goal extending their lead.

Saints continued to have opportunities following this, which were created through some great play and despite K Williams diving towards the post, Moule flicking the reverse and Jarman looking to gain a hatrick, we sadly were unable to convert. Before the final whistle Newquay found themselves back in St Austell's D, and grabbed another goal before the final whistle blew.

Final Score 5-2.

Another disappointing result for the Saints, but genuinely had some really great play with all individuals putting in great efforts. We continue to aim to come back stronger and get some better results.
