Match Report

Saturday 19th October

Saints were happy to be back on home turf this week, hosting Plymouth Lions in the sunshine!

The match began fairly even with both teams having opportunities to score and the ball was pinging from one end of the pitch to the other. Eventually Saints settled in and began to move the ball around, through the midfield and up into the D. The ball was slipped out right to Laura Tregunna who was able to find Vicky Jarman. V Jarman entered the D and looked to pass but the ball bobbled around and found its way into the goal, putting Saints 1-0 up.
This gave Saints the momentum they needed and shortly after this, they were back in the D and won a short corner. This time Vicky Jarman was able to calmly slot the ball passed the Lions keeper, grabbing her second goal of the game.
The game continued with plenty of good plays from both sides, but another Saints short corner saw Maisie Moule scoop up a rebound and gave Saints a strong lead at half time.

Half time 3-0

The second half again opened up opportunities for the Lions and caused Saints defensive line to work hard in diffusing any threats, which they did extremely well, allowing keeper Nikita Williams a quiet life in goal. Frustrations grew for the visiting team and captains were called in by umpires to settle the game down.
Saints had several more opportunities but struggled to execute the final shots, until Miranda Ball put a great ball into the D, finding Mel Maskell who got the all important touch to put the Saints another goal up.
V Jarman found herself taking a time out after she took a ball to the face, but managed to come back strong with all teeth in tact. St Austell 4-0 Plymouth Lions 3's
