Match Report |
Saints started off on the back foot after taking a while to find their shape. Bodmin were awarded a short corner within the first few minutes of the game; this was defended well and a Saints clearance then followed. Saints pushed hard to secure possession but struggled to get the ball into Bodmin's D. Bodmin were awarded another short corner, which was unfortunately deflected into the goal, making the score 1-0 to Bodmin. After a couple of minutes, Bodmin made a break right from their defence straight into Saints' D and a Bodmin forward slapped the ball into the goal. In the closing minutes of half-time, Moule made a run with the ball and skillfully took the ball past multiple Bodmin players and slotted the ball into the bottom left of the goal. Half time: 2-1 to Bodmin Saints' team talk at half time focused on keeping our shape and taking our time on the ball. Saints were determined to show that they could play better hockey than in the first half. It felt like Saints were a different team in the second half; feeling more confident in their positions they passed the ball round more confidently, M. Ball and L.Tregunna facilitated some great 'triangles' from the middle and created a lot more positive play. Saints had multiple short corners which both narrowly missed the right post. Saints' second goal came from a signature run by Moule down the right, she took a strike on goal but this was saved by the keeper, B.Horwell picked up the rebound and pinged it to K.Williams on the post, who slipped the ball into the goal. Saints had a few chances on goal and were unlucky not to score a third, P.Marsh and M.Adams were creating play out wide and A.Crowle was finding positive positions up front. In the closing minutes of the game Bodmin pushed hard to try and get a winning goal but L.Oakley, M. Bevins and D. James were solid in defence and some successful saves from keeper N.Williams meant that Bodmin didn't find their third goal. In the last few seconds of the game Saints were making a break and were frustrated to hear the whistle as they were hungry for a winning goal.
