Match Report |
Today Saints travelled over the Tamar to face Plymouth Marjon in a ‘need to win’ game. Saints went out hard from the first whistle, dominating play in the first few minutes. Some great movements and passing, saw the Saints progressing quickly up the pitch. A strong pass from midfield, found Moule on the left side of the D, who defeated the last member of Marjons defence, and the Keeper, finding the back board in the first 5 minutes. Saints set up well again, with Marjon battling hard to make progress up the pitch. Marjon found themselves making some good passes around the D which were picked up well by Saints’ defence. Saints’ continued to utilise their full team, making regular changes which allowed for great team play through the game. Creating triangles through the pitch and keeping posession, to make progress up the pitch. Our forwards, continued to apply relentless pressure to Marjon’s defence and narrowly missed out on securing a few more goals. Saint’s were eager to set their press well, and through a full team effort, Marjon were left with no output, forcing them to drive their own base line. Saints’ continued to apply this pressure and soon made a quick break through Marjon’s defence, with Moule making a great run, out pacing Marjon’s backs, and again finding the backboard. Marjon hit back with plenty of attacks, awarded with short corners, consecutively. This was no worry for Saints’ defence, who under composure, cleared all attempts on goal, to leave the score 2-0 to St Austell at Half Time. Saints’ were even more eager to maintain this lead coming out for the second half. They dominated from the whistle, securing the majority of the possession. Marjon made some great breaks progressing up the pitch, putting pressure on Saints’ defence but we remained able to keep the ball clear of goal, despite a number of short corners. Saints’ managed to make some great play in midfield, with Ball and Barrott working well in the middle to feed the forward line. Marjon were later able to find themselves in their attacking 22, with lots of quick movements in and out of the D. We were unlucky to be given a short against us, through a Saints’ foot. Marjon passed their short around the D, and found themselves the backboard, to bring the score to 2-1. Fire in Saints’ belly, they knew they needed to widen the goal difference. With pace and good movement from midfield, utilising the width, Barrott sent a ball to centre forward at the top of the D, with a cracking straight strike, managed to find the bottom left corner. 3-1 to Saints. Both teams continued to work hard in the final 10 minutes, with some further opportunities for both teams, but no conversions. Final score: 3-1 to Saints MOM: Maisie Moule Team: Nikita Williams, Debbie James, Lucie Oakley, Mandy Bevins, Laura Tregunna, Miranda Ball, Yasmin Barrott, Beth Horwell, Maisie Moule, Kellie Williams, Amanda Crowle, Lindsey Allen. |
