Match Report

Firstly, a massive thank you & shout out to Crow Hockey & KMF Group for the new team kit. New kit meant winning Saturday was coming

Saints went out hard, they were hungry for a win to start the new year, and after a team talk from coach Kat Redd, they were fired up. Saint didn't have to wait long for their efforts to be rewarded. Maisie positioned herself well to receive the ball in the circle and swept the ball in across the line to make the score 0-1 to Saints. After more hard-fought play from saints, we were awarded a short corner. The strike went out to Kellie, and her shot on goal was denied by one of the feet of Caradon’s defence. After being awarded another short corner, justice was done when Kellie's reverse stick from the strike made the score was 0-2 to Saints.  Caradon weren't resting on their laurels though, and weren't going to give Saints the win without a fight. They were awarded a short corner and the ball went in on the right post making the score 1-2. Not wanting to allow Caradon to equalise, Saints pushed to further their lead, a pass from Laura allowed Kellie to run up the right hand side and Kellie passed the ball into the penalty spot, where Beth did a dive to meet the ball and was awarded with the third goal making the score 1-3 to Saints.
The end-to-end game continued and Caradon scored another goal from a short in the closing minutes of the first half.

Half time: 2-3 to Saints

After a reminder from our coach at half time to ensure possession and use the back passes, we ensured that Mandy, Poppy, Molly and Debbie were utilised more in the second half and that we weren't always pushing up through players. Caradon made another break though, which meant another short, and unfortunately, another goal, making it equal for the first time in the game 3-3.
Lucie and Randy worked hard in midfield to ensure possession and after a great ball from Randy, and a great run, weaving through the players, Saints hit the back of Caradon net, which made the score 4-3. Kellie and Amanda were always working hard to ensure good positioning at the top and Beth and Laura in midfield were forces to be reckoned with for the match today, so much so, that one of Laura's passionate tackles earned her a green card and a couple of minutes in the sin bin. Saints then furthered their lead Maisie managed to get a well timed touch on the ball when a strike came into the circle from the 23 line, making the score 3-5 to Saints. The ninth goal of the game came from Caradon - a run down their right hand side of the pitch and pass along the back line enabled one of their players to sweep it past keeps to make the score 4-5. Both teams fought right until the end of the game, Caradon pushing for an equaliser and Saints working hard to keep the win, but Saints showed Caradon what they were made of today, and finished with a win.
