Match Report |
The ladies travelled to Penzance today to face their ladies two’s for their final fixture before Christmas, the ice didn’t affect the playing conditions and the game got the green light. St Austell took charge of possession early on and took the game to the home side. Opportunities denied early on but St Austell had the momentum behind them, despite this, Penzance managed to take the lead where they converted a short corner. St Austell were quick to react, where they were offered the same opportunity; the initial strike saved was scooped up by L Tregunna, M Moule was quick on the post to slip it past the keeper. Penzance attacks remained strong through out the half, St Austells defence maintaining composure to deny the conversion. The game remained end to end with both teams applying pressure, but a clearance off of the line from M Bevins in the closing minutes denied Penzance from taking the lead. St Austell started the second half strong, intercepting Penzances possession. They progressed up the pitch; moving the play amongst the midfield and forward line, a foul in the circle saw them awarded another short corner, Y Barrotts strike from the top of the circle gave St Austell the early lead. St Austell had taken a two goal lead, but with nearly of the remainder of the half to keep the hungry Penzance team away, they had to work hard. Penzance weren’t ready to give up yet, despite K Williams constant hassling at the top of the pitch, they found their feet and hustled the St Austell ladies throughout the half. Their efforts weren’t wasted when they too converted another short corner, and in the closing minutes found the back board once more from an impressive strikes off another short. The game drawing to an end and the physicialty of the game ramping up, cards could have been awarded to either team but the home side getting lucky when Barrott was the only one seeing the card in the closing minute. The final whistle saw both teams walk away with a well deserved point. A huge team effort for the St Austell ladies today, who worked hard until the final whistle. The ladies now take a break from league fixtures, and return at the end of January where they will travel away to caradon 3.
