St Austell Ladies Vs Bodmin 1

The ladies invited Bodmin to Penair this weekend. Saints starting 11 began strong in the opening minutes - applying pressure to Bodmin from the first whistle. Despite the pressure, Bodmin opened the scoring when their first opportunity was converted. Saints heads did not drop though and they continued to play their game of hockey. Laura, Yasmin and Beth worked the ball between themselves and created some lovely pieces of play although quick breaks from Bodmin meant Poppy, Miranda, Mandy and Debbie were working hard to keep Bodmin out of the circle. Saints had chances where they were flooding Bodmin's defence but they could not find the back of the net. Saints managed to get themselves a couple of short corners but unfortunately could not get past Bodmins keeper yet. Bodmin were hungry for more and finished up the first half 2-0. 

Saints regrouped at half term and went out fighting. Bodmin had creative players who enabled their team to move skilfully forward; however, Saints defence and keeper Nikita denied them the chance of taking another goal. Saints were awarded another short corner where they used their knowledge and skill but unfortunately the shot went just wide of the post. Saint were not giving up. Bodmin broke quickly and Saints needed to respond and break down play. Some great tackles were made by Saints defence but a rebound from the keeper found a Bodmin stick and they sneakily put it into the back corner. The game was end to end for both teams, equally having to defend each others forward attacks. The play started to build up amongst the St Austell ladies - a string of passes through midfield and onto our forward line, where the ball met Maisie. Maisie secured the ball and made a fantastic run up the left and slip it past Bodmin's keeper. Saints heads were lifted and they carried on fighting strong. Saints defence was under a lot of pressure from Bodmin responded, and tactically clawed another 2 past Saints. 

With the final minutes closing in, St Austell help on and the whistle blew, a loss for Saints but a great game played by all. Full time Bodmin 5 - Saints 1.
