Match Report |
Today, Truro welcomed St Austell for their first league encounter this season. Both teams battled for promotion two seasons ago and each time they meet the score line is always tight. St Austell came out a different team from their previous weeks; disciplined, hungry for the ball and determined to take another win. Saints dominated the play, creating fantastic spaces around the pitch and driving into the attacking circle. Truro kept them away from converting their hard work but it wasn’t long before St Austell secured the lead, when Holly Fraser opened the scoring. Truro started to apply the pressure but St Austell were quick to turn over the play back into their possession. Once more the ladies stormed into the D and cleared the keeper. 2-0 half time. The ladies knew Truro had more to give in the second half but St Austell were keen to set the press, with Fraser clearing the keeper once again in the early minutes. Truro stepped up the play, creating their own chances and managed to scrape one back from one of their short corners. St Austell, back on the attack, and once again linking up play amongst the forwards and midfield. The forwards - flooding the D - neatly secured their fourth. In the last 10 minutes, multiple short corners were won in Truro’s favour but the Saints’ defence denied their conversions. St Austell held out despite the play being dominated by Truro in the closing minutes as the final whistle blew. A well fought game from both teams today Todays result is St Austell’s third win out of four games and leaves them sat in third position in the league table, before welcoming Plymouth Marjon 3’s to Penair on Saturday 4th November.
