Match Report |
Today saw our Juniors back in league action in the form of our under 12s. The league is a series of 4 weekends throughout the season where they play a number of 12minute one way matches each weekend. Officially this is U12 Boys but our girls were not going to miss out on giving the lads a helpful boost
Following last month's baptism of fire the squad were eager to get stuck in, boasting a squad of 10 (7a side) we could rotate often.
Being a goal down inside 12seconds of the first game wasn't quite part of the script. A battling display against a very well drilled Penzance side saw it finish 0-4
Next up Caradon, lots of pressure & action in the Caradon D but no reward. Tiring legs as a back to back game saw Caradon take advantage with late goals, including the final touch of the game 0-2
Time for Falmouth. Again end to end, strong midfield play with some good passing, St. Austell getting to grips with the space. A bit of confusion with positioning following substitutions left Logan exposed in goal & Falmouth pounced in the last 3-4mins. 0-4
A 2nd Falmouth side. Learning every game & becoming more structured & disciplined with positioning. The Saints showed they are built of strong stuff. How their first goal eluded them no one could answer. With this Falmouth side not getting a sniff at goal. The Saints got their 1st point with a well deserved draw. 0-0
Penultimate game of the day Bude A kit clash saw St. Austell playing with bibs over their shirts. It also had them playing their best hockey to date. Some triangles of passing & strong tackling had a good Bude side on the ropes. *coaching tip don't tie your shoe laces up while stood in the D especially not in the last minute. 0-2
Final Game: Truro So here we were.....could St. Austell find that elusive first goal. Support for each other had been unwavering & commitment to keep playing showed no bounds. But against a notoriously tough Truro side the odds were stacked. Once again St. Austell started strong, carrying the ball & some great link up play. Truro were having their moments but the defense held firm. A scramble in the Truro D with the keeper twice on the floor it appeared only a magical force field was denying St. Austell. & then it happened....A powerful move through midfield had Alfie one on one, calmly slipping the ball through the keepers legs to smash the back board!!! Now could they hold out for the win??? A focused last few minutes some great kickouts from Sidney & it was all over 1-0
A great mornings hockey our young side holding their own against teams with lots more experience. But more importantly having fun & enjoying running around with each other.
Squad: GK:Stanley, Logan, Sydney each playing 2 games between the sticks as well as defense. DEF: Ethan, Maisie. MID/ATT: Jessie, Elowen, Lucy, Abel ATT: Alfie
Big thank you to all the families who came to support & as always Jacko for her tireless coaching & umpiring.
