Match Report |
The squad of 8 travelled away to Truro for their first tournament of the season. This was fantastic for our budding junior members and it sees the first time St Austell have put out a junior squad in four years, meaning today was the first competitive games that these young, enthusiastic players had faced at club level. The team consisted of Sid, Ethan, Logan, Stanley, Able, Lucie, Elowyn and Maisie. They played 5 x 15 minute games against Penzance, Caradon, Bude, Truro and Falmouth. All players worked so hard throughout all games. Logan and Stanley took turns in goal today, and they both made some phenomenal saves against some very experienced strikers. Ethan and Sid played fantastically in midfield and defence, both making some really impressive tackles. Abel and Lucie worked really hard driving the ball forward with Maisie and Elowyn getting into some fantastic spaces to create play. The team faced a number of short corners which they defended fiercely and even had some attacking short corners and shots on goals themselves. The squad played in great spirit throughout and despite not being able to get on the score sheet themselves, never gave up and made it really difficult for their more experienced opponents. The results were: V Penzance 0 - 2 Although there were no wins for the team today, their hard work and determination was fantastic, and the score lines don’t reflect their efforts and growing understanding of the game.
