St Austell Ladies Vs CSM1

The ladies travelled away this week to Penryn and after a heavy loss to Caradon 2 at home last week, Saints needed to secure the win.

With players injured, Saints managed to field a squad of 13. The starting 11 began strong in the opening minutes - applying pressure to the home team. Despite this pressure, CSM opened the scoring when their first opportunity was converted from a short corner.  Saints’ heads didn’t drop though and a minute later a build up from the right hand side found the ball in front of the goal; St Austell flooded the circle and the travelling team equalised, when Bunt’s denied shot was snuck past the keeper by Susie James. 

CSM had creative players who enabled their team to move skilfully forward; however, Saints’ defence and keeper Williams denied them the chance of taking the lead. The play, dominated by St Austell, saw a short corner awarded for the ladies. Moule’s injection was secured by Barrott at the top of the circle; her straight strike made it through CSM’s defence and clearly out of the keeper’s reach, taking the Saints to a half time lead. 

The second half was end to end for both teams, equally having to defend each other’s forward attacks. The play built up amongst the St Austell ladies - a string of passes throughout the midfield and onto the forward line; Moule to James and next into Bunt who wasn’t denied the conversion this time, slapping the ball past the unsuspecting keeper. 

CSM responded instantly, and tactically clawed one back. 

With the final minutes closing in, St Austell held on to the win as the final whilst blew, securing Saints a well deserved 3 points.
