Match Report

A late push back yesterday and the ladies were set to welcome Plymouth Uni. A delayed push back left the teams raring to get going.

The play was equal in the starting minutes and Charlotte Jarman’s fast pace caught the Uni defence off guard with a couple of shots narrowly going wide. Both teams worked hard to keep the play but St Austell were first on the score sheet, when Laura Tregunna’s pass was secured by Jarman, before Holly Bunt scooped it to the left of the keeper.

The play continued to be even with both teams making the breaks but neither converting. Minutes before half time, Uni managed to equalise when they snuck in a scrappy goal.

Uni came out a different team after half time. Their physicality and pace heightened and they were prepared to get through the Saints team however they could. Hermione Crowle and Amanda Crowle made creative spaces for Saints to counter attack. Yasmin Barrott battled relentlessly alongside Miranda Ball, who was making crucial tackles to support Maisie Moule, Mandy Bevins and Debbie James. Despite Uni’s efforts, Nikita Williams and her supporting three made sure they denied Uni any success in converting their short corners.

The physicality continued and Saints were hounded by Uni’s attacks. Charlotte Jarman was first to take a blow when she received a shoulder to the face. A second bully off was awarded and won by the Saints, then passed out wide to Beth Horwell. Uni were soon to win the ball back though and once more forcefully made ground towards the circle; a player lingering on the post, managed to scrape their second over the line.

Jarman was on the attack once more, she weaved her way through a number of players and was soon to face the keeper. After a quick change in direction she lost her footing and went down heavily with an ankle injury.

With no flood lights and a player badly injured, it was decided that the St Austell team would abandon the game before the final whistle.

The final result, 2-1 to Uni; not the result the Saints wanted in this game. It was hard for the ladies to keep their heads up in the second half due to the constant physicality of the opposition but they continued to fight right until the end.

We wish Charlotte Jarman a super speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the pitch with our ladies soon!.
