St Austell Ladies Vs Bodmin 1

The ladies were back at home this week, where they welcomed Bodmin 1’s to Penair. 

Bodmin have been strong in their league campaign so far this season, winning the majority of their fixtures. Even though St Austell had a couple of players out, Bodmin still needed to pitch together and work hard.

Bodmin took the game to St Austell from the start, with a combination of quick running and strong passes, challenging the Saints early on. Bodmin were awarded a string of short corners but were denied the conversions. Eventually, another corner was given; an unsuspecting, bouncy shot crossed the line, finally getting Bodmin onto the score sheet. 

Despite Bodmin’s relentless pressure, St Austell started to commence their own counter attacks; however, they didn’t quite manage to get the ball across the line, giving Bodmin a 1-0 lead at half time. 

The break spurred both teams on to come back out and continue the pressure. As they moved up the pitch with a series of well worked passes, Bodmin managed to break through St Austell’s midfield and defence to win another short corner, this time successfully converted. With the clock ticking, Bodmin then scored their final goal from another well worked penalty corner.

St Austell’s heads didn’t drop though; with minutes left in the game, they were next on the break with a string of passes - working through the midfield and onto the forward line. A fierce strike from Charlotte Jarman was volleyed by Hermione Crowle, past the Bodmin keeper and into the back of the net! 

The final whistle blew, awarding Bodmin a hard fought 3-1 win.  A challenging game for the St Austell ladies, but they worked hard until the final whistle.
