St Austell Ladies Vs Bodmin 1

 
It was derby day yesterday for the Saints, when they played Bodmin 1’s for the first time in many years. 

Bodmin set the tempo early but St Austell were quick to reply. Saints’ defenders were preventing Bodmin from making those crucial strikes, including one chance which came crashing on the cross bar. Bodmin were denied of converting their short corners and their tactics weren’t getting through St Austell’s back four. A golden opportunity was awarded to Bodmin when Jacko Sanders was left on her own to face a penalty flick; her experience came into play though when she cleared the strike. 
 
However, Bodmin’s hard work paid off - a sneaky one crossing the line was then followed by an impressive second. 

Half time 2-0.

The second half started with both sides creating chances, without troubling the score sheet. Another reel of short corners were in Bodmin’s favour but again and again a conversion was denied. They kept St Austell on their toes with their play but Saints were creating their own opportunities; a few short corners also going their way but without success. Saints were next to be awarded a golden opportunity, a penalty flick now in their favour, Mandy Bevins plucking the courage but narrowly slid wide of the post. 

It wasn’t long before Bodmin were awarded their third, and on separate occasions both teams were a player down for two minutes 

Bodmin soon slotted away their fourth and Saints’ heads were starting to drop slightly. The final whistle blew on a St Austell short but a clearance out wide saw the final score remain at 4-0.

Another tough game for the ladies but a strong improvement from last week as they find their feet in this higher league .
