Match Report

The day had finally come for the top of the table clash. After rearrangements of times, venues and weather problems 1430 at The Dragon Centre was finally agreed.

A squad of 12 arrived to a drizzly Dragon Centre , missing Charlotte Jarman and Beth Horwell, Saints were short of two strikers. Both teams were quick off the mark and for the first 15 minutes the game was end to end. The first short corner was awarded to St Austell; Yasmin Barrott’s injection was secured by Laura Tregunna who popped it back to Barrott but her strike was cleared off the line. The fight for the ball began, however Tregunna and Kellie Williams’ quick reaction didn’t give Truro time to respond and Tregunna secured the first goal.
19 minutes in, 1-0.

Truro upped the pace and put two goals past saints in the next 10 minutes despite some fantastic saves from experienced keeper Jacko Sanders.

Half time 2-1.

The second half saw 2 more goals. In the first 5 minutes Truro popped another one over the line. During the next 35 minutes St Austell struggled to find their rhythm. Despite this, Saints continued to work hard. Saints’ defence had their work cut out; Lindsay Allen, Debbie James and Mandy Bevin continuing to break down Truro’s drives. Miranda Ball supporting the midfield worked non-stop throughout the game, her and Lucie Oakley facing the force of Truro down the left hand side and into the middle. Despite Ball’s hard work a green card found her taking a 2 minute breather on the sideline. Maisie Moule fought hard to make it through Truro’s back and Garnett Scott there to support her, they made their way into the circle, Susie James paced up the right hand side and James gave hope for a Saints’ come back when she forced the ball over the line.
16 minutes in the second half, 3-2.

A few minutes later Tregunna was the next to be watching from the sidelines from a green card; however it wasn’t just Saints in the sin bin - Truro were soon to join them not long after.

With the final minutes of the game looming, both teams continued to play until the final whistle. St Austell’s defence never giving up, their strong clearances and blocks denied Truro of any further goals!
On this occasion, Truro came out on top securing their place at the top of the table.
