Match Report

Another week and another away game for the ladies, as they eagerly await the delivery of the new goals to finally allow them to return to their home ground.

St Austell, keen to keep their winning streak going, faced a prepared Bodmin squad. Bodmin moved the ball well and had put the hard work in since the last time the teams met. In normal St Austell fashion, the ladies took their time to settle into the game and it wasn’t until Bodmin converted a short corner did the Saints begin to play. Saints’ attacks flooded in with the Bodmin keeper facing a number of St Austell strikes. An interception and break from Charlotte Jarman soon pulled the ladies back into the game, as she forced it past the keeper to equalise. Saints pushed, and both teams found themselves awarded a number of short corners with Debbie James making some strong blocks and Miranda Ball creating play for the midfield. Moments later, Bodmin were next to be defending; the keeper’s save was collected by Maisie Moule and before she could react, Moule had cleared it past the keeper’s right hand side, giving Saints the lead for the first time in the game. Despite Bodmin making forceful breaks into Saint’s defence, Lindsay Allen made those vital and well timed tackles. However, the attacks that made the all important impact came from St Austell. This time Lucie Oakley’s drive forward found her in space in the circle; her turn and slip falling into the line of a running Jarman, who’s hit was too quick to be saved, found the back board.

Half time 3-1.

Both teams came back ready and focused for the second half; however, after some confusing decisions, both teams were handed green cards and were left to manage with 10 players. Despite some hard decisions, the ladies remained cool and determined. Bodmin’s threats continued to be eliminated in the second half but any that snuck through were cleared by keeper Roxanne King, who was struggling with a knee injury. Elaine White’s free hit found St Austell’s midfield, then onto the forwards. A Bodmin foul provided another attacking short corner for the Saints - Yasmin Barrott, weaving her way through the defence, turned and flicked the ball past the keeper, securing Saint’s fourth. The second half proved a lot more attacking for the ladies; Laura Tregunna, supported by Kellie Williams and Beth Horwell, opening up spaces on the right hand side and creating options kept up the ladies hopes for a fifth. Despite St Austell’s efforts, Bodmin’s hard work in defence paid off and the final score remained at 1-4. Another win for the Saints - a tougher match but still a very much deserved victory.
