Match Report

Another weekend and another trip away for the ladies who made their way to Penryn to face Falmouth’s 3rd team.

It took Saints a long time to settle into the game and with Falmouth’s young legs, St Austell were forced to defend early on. Saints lacked creativity; Falmouth were punishing them for this and found their feet in between St Austell’s errors. Saint’s goal keeping was in the safe hands of Jacko Sanders who returned to the pitch and was making strong clearances early on; Falmouth’s perseverance paid off though when they converted a short corner.
The ladies heads’ didn’t drop and they began to compose themselves as the first half progressed. Laura Tregunna travelled down the pitch and a quick slip in the circle met Maisie Moule to put it past the keeper scoring the equaliser. The press continued. This time Lucie Oakley was gaining ground and once again found Moule who, for the second time, cleared the keeper.

Half time 2-1

Both teams came out wanting more in the second half. Falmouth continued to apply pressure to St Austell’s back 3; however Miranda Ball supported well before playing the ball, creating threatening opportunities.
Saints were once again making their way forward, Falmouth’s strong keeper preventing the score line being too damaging so far. However the clearance, not strong enough this time, was collected by Yasmin Barrott who held on to possession before popping Saint’s third past the keeper.
Falmouth were replying and each attack proved more threatening to Saints. Debbie James and Elaine White had to think quick and strong in the attempt to slow Falmouth’s pace. Lindsay Allen’s strong hit was collect by Charlotte Jarman who was hungry to get on the score sheet herself. She travelled her way up the pitch and past a number of Falmouth’s defenders before out skilling the keeper, finding the backboard.  Despite Falmouth’s counter attacks, St Austell continued to re-group and build the play back up - Oakley once again playing a great ball into Jarman. Jarman’s speed was hard to match and again saw her in a 1 on 1 with the keeper; her second crossed the line. Jarman now in the swing of things was a force to reckon with, scoring twice more off of Moule’s and Barrott’s passes! Saints were in the attacking position again, a quick string of passes between Tregunna and Barrott set Barrott
up to make her way into the circle, weaving through a number of defenders before seeing the gap she needed and finishing off the scoring with her second of the game.

Final score 8-2.

We wish the Falmouth player a speedy recovery after she sustained a nasty injury during the first half.
