Match Report |
St Austell travelled away for their first home game of the season and they were prepared for a tough encounter. Truro 1’s are new to Trelawney 2 this season after facing relegation at the end of the 2019-2020 season. St Austell have met Truro 1’s once before in The County Cup when St Austell walked away with a hard-fought win.
Truro dominated play from the outset and forced St Austell to get their heads in the game quickly. Truro oozed confidence as they effortlessly travelled around the pitch but Saints were determined to hold their own. They worked tirelessly to break down Truro’s play and made some hopeful counter attacks. However, Truro were rewarded for their efforts and took control of the game after putting away their second. Despite being two down Saints’ efforts continued; they began the counterattack when a short corner was awarded. Charlotte Jarman’s fierce strike found itself just saved, with Truro’s defenders scrambling to clear the play. Beth Horwell was quick in response though, clearing the keeper and putting St Austell back into the game, making the score 2-1 just before half time.
Saints re-grouped during the break and within minutes of the start of the second half, equalised when a strike from Charlotte Jarman flew over the top of the keeper, into the top right corner of the goal! The equaliser encouraged Saints’ spirits and in horrendous conditions the ladies continued to work hard. Truro rolled on fresh legs and kept their play creative. A tiring St Austell struggled to keep them away and regular threats saw their hard work pay off. The final whistle blew with the score standing 5-2 to Truro. A tough first game for the ladies but not one to be disheartened by. There is still lots to work on but St Austell had areas of strong, attacking play. Despite the score line Roxanne King had a fantastic game and Hermione Crowle made her debut for the ladies.
