Match Report

St Austell took the away trip to Tavistock to face Launceston. With Storm Jorge due in the team knew it was going to be another wild and windy match!

Play started off well with the midfielders using the width and sending balls out wide to Amy Simons and Susie James. We began to look threatening in Launceston's D, but the very strong keeper managed to keep the goal clear. It wasn't long before S.James entered the D and struck the ball straight into the back of the net, giving saints the boost that they needed. Shortly after Launceston were able to get one back after a short corner was deflected off a Launceston stick into the top right corner of the goal. Saints came back fighting and a short corner was awarded. After some passing around the D the ball fell to Yasmin Barrott who slotted the ball past the keeper.

Charlotte Jarman was back on form with her ankle securely strapped up and started making speedy runs into the D, it wasn't long before she was awarded with a goal after a great run and strike in the D. Play continued with saints having the majority of possession with midfielders and strikers taking strong strikes but were once again denied by Launceston's keeper.

Half time 3-1.

In the second half Storm Jorge made lives difficult with wind, hail, rain and snow came in but Saints continued to battle through. The second half saw Launceston get a few chances but Roxanne King remained calm and was cool clearing balls out wide to defenders Debbie James and Lainey White, who were then able to get the ball moving back up the pitch. Miranda Ball was able to play some fantastic long balls through to Lucie Oakley and Sophie Millington who were looking threatening in the D. This lead to a Launceston clearance which was stopped by Oakley, who passed the ball back into the D to find Jarman who bagged her second goal of the game by slapping the ball into the bottom corner.

Amy Simons and Chloe Tyrell made some strong runs up the right wing despite the hail and were enabling St Austell to pile the pressure on in Launceston's half. Oakley was positioned perfectly to receive the a pass from Ball and slotted the ball into the back of the net, but unfortunately the goal was disallowed. Saints didn't let this stop them and the team continued to push forward into Launceston's D.

Barrott and Ball were ready to receive any pass backs and get the ball back into the D. Eventually another short corner was awarded and S.James got a rebound and flicked the ball over the line. Launceston came back fighting and were able to move the ball into Saints half but Lindsay Allen stood strong with White and D.James to prevent any further Launceston goals. The final whistle blew just as S.James was wounded after she took a lifted ball to the face.
