Match Report |
St Austell travelled to Truro this weekend and in missing several regular players they were faced with no subs; but Hazel V Henshaw-King came prepared and popped the maroon kit on, ready to save the legs of some players. Saints still hoped to continue their win following last weeks great result.
Saints began with possession and carried the ball around the pitch well. Truro were on the back foot but ready to try and put a stop to Charlotte Jarman from making too big of an impact on the game. St Austell continued to press and the creative play and solid passes found them in Truro’s 25, threatening to put one away. Truro’s keeper had to work hard and in the first minutes saw her making a strong clearance from one of Jarman’s strikes. Truro’s defence failed to get on the end of it which led Laura Tregunna to run in and pick up the loose ball. Before they could react, she had put it past the keeper, opening St Austell’s scoring. Truro picked up and were getting into St Austell’s free spaces to gain ground but Miranda Ball worked hard, tracking down any threats and clearing them out to Lucie Oakley and Amy Simons. St Austell continued to break down Truro’s defence. It was only a matter of time before Saint’s were back on the attack. Jarman, picking off the players as she went, was found at the top of the circle, a solid reverse strike finally cleared the keeper and putting Jarman on the score sheet. Truro continued to create play down the left hand side, where they played their ringer who fancied a change from the first team this week. Debbie James, stuck to her like glue and made some brilliant tackles, stopping her from posing too much of a threat. A side line ball found Oakley speeding down the right hand side before setting Jarman up with the perfect ball outside of the circle for Jarman to finish it off, putting it past the defence and the keeper once again.
Half time 3-0. St Austell regrouped and were re-energised thanks to Gary Beatson with his orange segments.
Truro struggled to break through St Austell’s solid defence. Without a shot on goal in the first half, the plan was to continue this through the second. Lainey White held firm in the middle with strong blocks and Jenny Carter had a super game making some great ground up the right hand side before super sub, Hazel Henshaw-King came on to add to St Austell’s hard working defence, helping out fellow twin Roxanne King in goal.
The play remained much of the same throughout the second half. Simons, getting into some fantastic spaces on the left, played some great balls to Jarman and Tregunna to move forward. Sophie Millington held her ground well on the post and cleared it over the line after another Jarman run. Setting the press for the second half, Jarman picked up a worrying injury when she rolled her ankle. However, in Jarman style she got up and made a run - even with a limp she responded in style, guaranteeing her hat trick. She didn’t stop there though; minutes later she was back at it, putting the 4th under her belt. The score line could have kept creeping up as Oakley and Simons built up the play from out wide. Emily Sheila found some great positions but Truro just snuck it away. In the final minutes Truro made a run, the player moved the ball forward with her feet, rather than her stick; however the foul wasn’t seen. Truro took advantage of this and made their first threatening attack onto St Austell. King held firm and the defence didn’t make it easy but Truro got the reward as the ball hit the back board and the final whistle blew.
Great team play from the Saints and a well deserved 3 points win. Final score 6-1.
