Match Report | Saturday 14th December
Saints were finally able to welcome Launceston to Poltair after their original fixture was postponed back in October. It was another wild and windy day but saints arrived keen to get 3 points for their last game of 2019.
In true Saints style it took around 10 minutes for them to really get going and to settle into some new positions, with two key players missing. Thankfully Saints then found their stride and the goals came rolling in. The first goal came after St Austell's midfield duo Yasmin Barrott and Miranda Ball worked the ball up the middle to find striker Charlotte Jarman. Jarman stormed down the line until she was able to find Barrott at the top of the D who knocked the ball into the bottom corner. Jarman was quick to find Saints second goal after a great run into the D, she reverse hit the ball into the goal. Soon after some excellent work from the midfield and wingers saw a ball pinged towards the post, where Sophie Millington was poised and ready, and popped the ball into the back of the net. Saints were then awarded a short corner which Launcestons keeper was able to keep out, but Saints fought hard and after several passes in and around the D, Barrott was able to slot the ball past the keeper for her 2nd goal of the game. Before the half time whistle went, Saints were back in Launceston's D with some threatening plays. After a short battle the ball fell to Beth Horwell who pinged the ball into goal.
Half time 5-0.
In the 2nd half Launceston stepped up their game and began to break into St Austell's D. This forced keeper Roxanne King to make some great saves. The defence line of Debbie James, Lindsay Allen and Elaine White stood strong and were able to stop any goals being scored by the opposing side, but with strong battling from both sides, a player from each team received a green card. After around 20 minutes, St Austell stepped up their game. Ball was playing some great balls through to Horwell and Emily Sheila, who were using the width well. Eventually Ball, Barrott and Jarman managed to move the ball around Launcestons defence and Jarman smashed the ball into the net. This gave Saints the boost they needed and Maisie Moule played a great square ball across to Lucie Oakley who ran the ball up the line to find Jarman in the D who was able to get a well deserved hatrick. In the final minute of the game, Jarman was hungry for one more goal. Ball delivered a fantastic ball into the D and Jarman was just able to get the necessary touch for the ball to chip up and over the line, giving Jarman her 4th goal of the day.
